PERU is a large and amazingly diverse country. Its geography includes the arid coastal desert along the Pacific, the high Andean mountains, and the Amazonian tropical forests extending into Brazil. Its cultural diversity is equally impressive. Roughly half of Peru's people are indigenous, another third are mestizo (mixture of Spanish and native), with the remaining a mixture of European, African, Japanese and Chinese minorities.
