SAGE places volunteers for 4 - 12 week intervals with well established Indian social service and rural development organizations which provide a wide variety of service opportunities in Indian villages and rural communities.
SAGE Volunteers can select their preferred location in the desert state of Rajasthan, the Himalayan mountain region of Himachal Pradesh, or among the tropical beach communities of Goa. We also offer a 12 week program that combines all three! Volunteers are housed with other international volunteers, so you have a built-in support network and a ready social circle of youth from around the world. When not providing service, volunteers have time for travel and personal relaxation.
You may travel independently or join SAGE's organized trips to the "must-see" sights of India. You can enjoy a camel safari, trekking in the mountains, river rafting, or relaxing on the beach. Indian cooking lessons and yoga classes are also available.
Projects Include:
- Teaching English or computer literacy classes in a village school
- Working with mentally challenged children
- Providing love and care to orphans
- Working with HIV/AIDS patients
- Aiding in animal welfare
